Sleep Inc. acquires International Bedding assets

Sleep Inc., a mattress producer owned by bedding industry veteran Carroll Moran, has acquired assets of the former International Bedding Corp. based in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. IB ceased operations in December.

The sale covered all IB intellectual property, including brands and trademarks, factory equipment and one manufacturing facility in Mahanoy Township, Pa.

“Plans are to evaluate relaunching the IB brand before year-end,” said Doug Guffey, Sleep Inc. president. “International Bedding is a great name with very good strengths in regional markets. I think the earlier IB organization did a phenomenal job of growing the brand and its private-label business. We’d like to bring it back to its former glory as an important regional player. We also see opportunities down the road for international licensing.”

Sleep Inc., with headquarters in Corsicana, Texas, operates four facilities that manufacture branded and private-label mattresses—Corsicana; Carrollton, Texas; Haleyville, Ala.; and Salt Lake City.

At the Las Vegas Market in January, the company launched three collections under its own Sleep Inc. brand umbrella. Sleep Inc. also holds Spring Air and Therapedic licenses and recently purchased the Englander licensee in North Billerica, Mass.

Sister company Corsicana Bedding, also owned by Moran, manufactures bedding for the promotional market.
