The Lenzing Group, a supplier of cellulosic fibers headquartered in Lenzing, Austria, has introduced a new microfiber, Lenzing Modal Edelweiss, which it says is produced in a more ecologically friendly manner.
This is the fifth Modal product from the company and joins MicroModal, ProModal, Lenzing Modal Loft and MicroModal Air. More innovations are planned for the fall, the company said.
Lenzing Modal Edelweiss has the same “softness and color brilliance” of conventional Lenzing Modal fiber, but is based on a chemical process “derived from oxygen,” the company said. Edelweiss technology couples “carbon-neutrality” with “a low need for land and a replenishable raw material of natural origins.” The raw material of Modal is beech wood.
The fiber can be used in all textile constructions, including knits and wovens, and shortly will be available to most ticking suppliers around the world, the company said.
