ISPA: U.S. mattress sales surge

The wholesale dollar value of mattresses and foundations sold in the United States in April jumped 14.5% over the same month in 2011, according to the Bedding Barometer, a monthly sales report from the International Sleep Products Association. Unit sales (mattresses and foundations) rose 5.4% for the month and the average unit selling price increased 8.7% when compared to the prior–year period. Year to date in 2012, unit sales are up 9%, dollar values are up 18.1% and the AUSP is up 8.3% when compared to the prior year period. The surveyed companies account for 66% of the mattress units shipped.
