Certification and inspection company Control Union in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., has granted the Global Organic Latex Standard certification to two mattress makers, Organic Mattresses Inc. in Yuba City, Calif., and Safe For Home dba Naturepedic in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. The two companies are the first recipients of GOLS certification in the United States, according to a Control Union news release.
The standard establishes guidelines for sustainable production of latex-containing products—either end-products or components—from organic raw materials. It covers a range of factors, including processing, manufacturing, packing, labeling, trading and distribution of latex products. The standard also assesses the impacts on human health and the environment in the manufacturing of latex products.
