Boyd Specialty Sleep president nabs ‘Oscar’

Denny BoydDenny Boyd, president of St. Louis-based mattress producer Boyd Specialty Sleep, picked up his first acting award Feb. 25, for his role in a spoof of the Oscar-nominated film “Zero Dark Thirty.” The movie parody “What? It’s Zero Dark Thirty Already?!?” was part of a series of comic tributes to best picture nominees produced by Fox news affiliate KTVI in St. Louis.

Boyd’s co-stars included the Fox affiliate’s sleep-deprived early morning news crew who regularly rise at zero dark thirty—the dead of night.

The plot revolves around the news team’s desperate hunt for the Sandman, played by Boyd. When they finally track him down in an office at a mattress warehouse, he turns and delivers a single line, “I was wondering when you guys were going to come see me. Hope you slept well, St. Louis!”

Boyd thanked KTVI for his best supporting actor award, saying he had a lot of fun and added, “Since we sell mattresses, we like any award that has ‘best support’ associated with it!”
