Global Systems Group: Introductions focused on production efficiency

Global Systems Group, the machinery division of Carthage, Mo.-based industry supplier Leggett & Platt, introduced several new and updated mattress machines under various brand names at Interzum Cologne in Germany May 13-16.

Global Systems Group Paragon M+ Quilter

Redesigned: The Paragon M+ quilter’s new options improve productivity and ease of use.

The Paragon M+ quilter was redesigned with new options for greater ease of use and productivity. New “intuitive” preventive maintenance software programs make it easier to track, schedule and diagnose maintenance issues and ensure peak machine performance, the company said. In addition, the new Windows 7 operating system makes the M+ control system is four times faster. The quilter offers end-guard cabinets and heavy-duty gearboxes with a hardened main shaft. A new tick-joining station makes material splices quicker and easier. The quick-set material tension system simplifies material roll changes and a wireless warning system alerts operators to low-material status, according to the company.

Nähtec displayed the new KL-244 automatic panel cutter and serger. Positioned behind a mattress panel quilter, the KL-244 can automatically trim and over-lock all four sides of the panel. This multitasking machine combines multiple operations, reducing labor and improving value-added productivity, GSG said.

Global Systems Group and SABA water-based adhesives R&D teams developed new automated adhesive systems for foam operations. The machines are based on the new SABA Hybrid 13.0 series of water-based adhesives that work with virtually no overspray, and the formula produces a near-immediate bond for easy production handling, according to the company.

Gribetz GB-1 Glue Bridge

Gribetz GB-1 Glue Bridge uses SABA 13.0 Hybrid adhesive

Using this technology, Gribetz introduced two new foam adhesive systems to streamline foam-encased bed production and reduce material waste. The GRS-1 Foam Rail Splicer automatically splices various sized foam rail sections and cuts them to desired, preprogrammed lengths. This can improve lean efficiencies by making it possible for customers to order a single size of foam rail lengths and cut and splice them as needed for just-in-time production. The Gribetz GB-1 Glue Bridge also utilizes the SABA 13.0 Hybrid adhesive for automatically applying adhesive to foam or shoddy pad surfaces for foam-encased build up or layered foam applications. This multihead system uses the water-based adhesive in an airless system that eliminates excessive overspray.

The MattressMaster Optima, a tape-edge machine from Gateway Systems, is part of the popular MattressMaster product line. It can reduce operator fatigue and improve productivity with automatic mattress turning and flipping devices, GSG said. Gateway Systems also unveiled the GS-MN3DC, a decorative border machine that can splice a mattress border and introduce a third section.

Porter International showcased new features available on the BMS-1500 Modular Border System. The BMS-1500 has optional interchangeable tooling to produce a variety of engineered border styles. The BMS-1500 can be equipped to produce spliced 3-D material, welt cord trim, faux pillow-tops, applied decorative ribbons, zippered borders, ruffled Cinch-Loc pillow-tops and joined and varied border materials.
