Bedding maker Dormeo Octaspring, with U.S. headquarters in Plano, Texas, is opening a new 38,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Winchester, Va. The plant will allow the company, part of London-based Studio Moderna Group, to produce its foam coils in the United States for the first time.
Dormeo Octaspring has invested more than $1 million dollars in equipment to retrofit the facility to be able to produce its octagonal foam coil. The plant also will manufacture the company’s mattresses, foundations and pillows, doubling Dormeo’s manufacturing capabilities in the United States. The company also has a plant in Plano.
The Virginia facility will be run by Michael Carter, director of manufacturing, who recently joined the company. Carter is an experienced sleep products industry executive, having worked for 15 years with other leading brands. The plant is expected to create 20 new jobs.
“As we grow our business in the United States, we’re continually working to streamline our processes. That’s why we’ve selected Virginia to establish our second manufacturing site. It’s centrally located on the East Coast, easily allowing us to efficiently service our customers all the way from Canada to Florida, while cutting down on delivery times and freight costs,” said Jon Stowe, Dormeo chief operating officer. “Bringing production of the Octaspring coil takes our efforts one step further and with the opening of this plant we can now say our products are ‘Made in America.’ We know this adds value to our brand in North America and will serve as a selling point as we continue to expand.”
