The International Sleep Products Association welcomed more than 80 new members in 2013. ISPA membership continues to see healthy growth rates across all industry categories, including start-up companies, veteran mattress producers, components suppliers and manufacturers of accessories.
“ISPA helps its members address issues that a single company cannot manage alone,” said ISPA President Ryan Trainer. “Resources like ISPA Insider, ISPA Advocacy Alerts and the ISPA Wage Survey are valuable tools that members can use to tackle day-to-day business issues and for long-term planning.”
For nearly 100 years, ISPA programs and initiatives have supported and protected the mattress industry’s growth, profitability and stature. For example, as a result of advocacy efforts in 2013, ISPA helped the industry avoid costly new legal requirements, and instead negotiated much more practical, industry-lead efforts. As a result, ISPA recently established a nonprofit entity called the Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) to manage mattress-recycling programs in California, Connecticut and Rhode Island. ISPA anticipates the MRC will be an essential factor in future mattress recycling activities in other parts of the country.
“2013 brought significant shifts in policy and business practices throughout the sleep products industry,” noted Mary Helen Uusimaki, ISPA’s vice president of membership and communications. “As the voice of the mattress industry, ISPA is at the forefront of advocating for industry policies and educating our members about how government policies can affect their businesses.”
Among the more than 80 new members who joined ISPA is supplier Radium Foam.
“Radium Foam joined ISPA because America is a clear growth market for us with a demand for premium comfort bedding products…,” said Ila Farshad, manager of business development for the company. “We want to make sure we receive all information on what is happening in the market, and we think that ISPA is sharing such information and actively works to the benefit of the bedding industry, for example on the recycling legislation.”
