Province of Nova Scotia considering mattress-recycling program

Regulatory officials in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia have released a new consultation document  that seeks comments on requiring producers of mattresses sold in the province to establish, administer and fund a program to recycle used mattresses. This approach is similar to extended producer responsibility, or EPR, programs for mattresses that were proposed in some U.S. states that ISPA has successfully opposed.

ISPA believes that recycling programs are best funded through a point-of-sale fee like the programs being implemented in California, Connecticut and Rhode Island. If you are a manufacturer who does business in Canada and are interested in participating in this effort, please contact Chris Hudgins at [email protected].
