Washington state filings begin for children’s mattresses

In 2008, Washington state enacted the “Children’s Safe Products Act,” which authorized the state to regulate numerous chemicals used in children’s products sold in the state.

Filing requirements for the “bedding” category, which includes mattresses, began earlier this year for companies with gross sales of over $1 billion. Beginning this month, other companies must report in declining order of sales volume according to a schedule set in the implementing regulations section. The International Sleep Products Association urges manufacturers subject to this law to consult with legal counsel for advice regarding its obligations under the law.
