Ergomotion acquired by adjustable-base maker Shufude

Adjustable base manufacturer Jiaxing Shufude Electric Bed Co. Ltd., with headquarters in Jiaxing City, China, has acquired its principal U.S. distributor, Santa Barbara, California-based Ergomotion. Former Ergomotion principal Kelly Clenet has left the company. His father, Alain Clenet, remains as a consultant to the product development and design teams at Ergomotion. Leo Vera, Ergomotion president and chief executive officer, and Michael Grillo, chief financial officer, also have departed the company. Other members of the Ergomotion team are expected to remain.

The company is now led by Shufude owner Jack Tang, who serves as Ergomotion president and CEO, and Shufude executive Harry Hou, who is chief financial officer.

Shufude said it is merging its U.S. subsidiary Softide Adjustable Beds LLC, based in City of Industry, California, with Ergomotion.

The company is “one of the world’s largest manufacturers of adjustable bases” and has been Ergomotion’s main supplier since the American company opened its doors in 2005.
