Banner Mattress brand returns as Banner Factory Direct

The former factory-direct retailer Banner Mattress & Furniture Co.—which once employed close to 100 and closed earlier this year—has reopened under new ownership as Banner Factory Direct LLC in Toledo, Ohio, The Toledo Blade reported Nov. 22.

The company operates a new 18,000-square-foot showroom that retails mattresses and furniture, as well as the former Banner manufacturing facility in the Toledo metropolitan area. Bard Strand, former Banner general manager, and four other ex- employees, purchased the former company’s plant and the rights to use the Banner name from the Karp family, owners since the 1970s responsible for expanding into furniture retailing. Banner’s roots as a family-owned mattress manufacturer date back to 1929.

The new employee-owned entity employs 10 and has plans to expand to a second retail location and to wholesale its locally manufactured beds, Strand told The Blade.
