Nonprofit mattress recycling company Spring Back Recycling has named Blake Tidwell as interim executive director. He fills the position formerly held by Michael Kattman who departed earlier this year. The Nashville, Tennessee-based company chose Tidwell based on his experience serving on its board of directors, as well as his passion for Spring Back’s mission.

“Blake brings a wealth of operational and financial-modeling experience that will be key to our future success, in licensing (our) model around the country,” said John Gonas, Spring Back board chair. “Blake has already demonstrated a capacity to draw out best operational practices from existing licensees, and empower new licensees to efficiently resource and process mattresses and box springs. He has a proven track record of conceiving, developing and implementing sustainable social enterprise.”

Tidwell’s professional experience includes serving as controller for LogicForce Consulting, director of credit balance for HMS, and chief financial officer of Arbor Healthcare LLC.

Commenting on his new position, Tidwell said, “I look forward to continuing to serve and partner with recycling centers across the country that are striving to make a difference in the lives of disenfranchised men. I am inspired by the work that our partners are doing every day, creating economic opportunity for men who need a second chance while addressing the mattress crisis that exists in our country today.”

Spring Back is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a business model based on creating employment for the disenfranchised. In addition to its Nashville facility, Spring Back operates mattress-recycling centers in Charlotte, North Carolina; Denver; Salt Lake City; and Tacoma, Washington. The four-year-old company has processed more than 200,000 mattresses in its four years of operation.
