Mississippi mattress-recycling bill dies

Legislation introduced in Mississippi to create a statewide mattress-recycling program similar to laws enacted in California, Connecticut and Rhode Island has died because a House committee failed to act on the bill before a legislative deadline. Similar legislation was introduced last year and quickly died, as well. The International Sleep Products Association will continue to monitor the situation and will engage with lawmakers if necessary.

Rhode Island bill to modify recycling law

Legislation supported by the International Sleep Products Association has been introduced in Rhode Island to tweak the state’s 2013 mattress-recycling law. ISPA is seeking amendments to Rhode Island’s recycling law to make it consistent with 2014 changes to Connecticut’s mattress-recycling law. The legislation is not expected to face opposition.

Agency selected to lead MRC outreach

The Mattress Recycling Council has chosen Williams Whittle to lead its consumer-education outreach program. The agency will work with MRC to develop a public service announcement, create point-of-sale materials for retailers, develop consumer-focused recycling events and partnerships, and assist with traditional and social-media relations.
