Protect-A-Bed aims to improve firefighter fitness

Sleep accessories provider Protect-A-Bed is helping to encourage more than 2,000 firefighters to be healthier by offering members of the Philadelphia Firefighters & Paramedics Union Local 22 the company’s fitness tracker, REM-Fit Active.

REM-Fit Active uses a proprietary algorithm to let users know how active they have been throughout the day and how soundly they have slept during the night.

Protect-A-Bed offered the firefighters and their family members a 50% discount on the product. Firefighters who participate in a health-incentive program are able to receive an $800 wellness bonus.

“Maintaining a level of fitness each day is important, but so is quality sleep. It provides energy, prevents injury and helps you stay motivated to live a healthy life,” said James Bell, chief executive officer of Protect-A-Bed, which has headquarters in Wheeling, Illinois.
