Mattress Startup Helix Sleep Offers Customization

Helix Sleep mattress and shipping cartonNew York-based e-commerce startup Helix Sleep is taking a different approach from other online-only mattress sellers. Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all model, the company customizes each bed to suit the shopper’s body type, as well as comfort and sleep preferences.

A queen mattress retails for $900 and is made with polyurethane support foam topped with latex and wrapped microcoils.

As part of the purchase process, shoppers complete a questionnaire allowing the company to personalize the bed’s comfort with a “proprietary algorithm based on 3-D human modeling … (using) four key performance metrics—feel, support, temperature regulation and point elasticity,” according to a news release.

Dual comfort models are available for couples that share the same bed, but not the same sleep preferences.

The compressed and rolled mattresses ship within a week and carry a 100-day return policy.
