A chemist at specialty chemical supplier Alexium, with U.S. headquarters in Greer, South Carolina, applies one of the company’s proprietary coatings to a fabric sample.

Founded in 2009, Alexium supplies the military, industrial and consumer-goods sectors. It has world headquarters in Perth, Australia, with U.S. operations, including product development and research and development capabilities, in Greer, South Carolina.

While the majority of the company’s product line is focused on FR solutions, there has been a great deal of interest among bedding industry suppliers in the newer Alexicool phase-change finish, as it is both cost-effective and durable, the company said. Alexicool uses proprietary chemistry to provide a cool-to-the-touch feel that can withstand more than 25 washings.

Alexium uses a network of toll manufacturers to service its customers, said Michael Schwartz, Alexium vice president of sales.

“We are adding manufacturing locations worldwide to meet rising demand for Alexicool and are speeding up plant-qualification processes, as customers transition into full adaptation of our Alexicool technology. We have strong momentum with international sales of Alexicool and remain on track to meet projected revenues of $18.5 million for calendar year 2016.”
