Luxury bed manufacturer Harrison Spinks, based in Leeds, England, is investing £9 million ($11 million) as part of its five-year strategy to increase its business and develop new beds.
The investment includes a new site in Leeds for a larger innovation and technology center, and additional offices for the expanding team. The facility also will have a dedicated Somnus showroom. In addition to quadrupling capacity at its natural fillings plant, the bed maker also is investing in machinery, wire drawing and spring technology.
As part of this investment, Harrison Spinks has refocused its business strategy to concentrate primarily on beds and components and is no longer manufacturing Spink & Edgar Upholstery at its Leeds factory. The company is looking for an upholstery manufacturer to produce the company’s full range of upholstered furniture offerings using Harrison Spinks components.
Harrison Spinks already makes foam-free mattresses and is developing a glue-free, chemical-free bed, the company said in a news release.
Simon Spinks, managing director, said: “We have been working for some time on new technologies to develop the ultimate natural bed. We want to not only use natural, locally sourced materials, but also remove chemicals and glue from our products. A mattress that is foam-free, glue-free and chemical-treatment-free is just around the corner and will revolutionize the bed industry as we know it today.”
“The £9 million investment will certainly pave the way for our new direction and five-year plan to be world leaders in sustainable bed technology,” he continued. “Our spring technology has found its way into all sorts of products, from seating to footwear, but we are renewing our focus on products and components for sleep; it’s who we are, the original sleep tailors.”
