The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has updated its Handbook for Resale Stores and Product Resellers, which provides guidance to thrift stores and other resellers about safety concerns associated with certain consumer products. Renovated and second–hand mattresses must comply with both the 16 CFR Part 1632 and 1633 flammability standards. The revised handbook provides specific guidance on the matter and advises stores to destroy mattresses that do not meet flammability requirements.
