The number of bedding units shipped in the United States fell 7.6% in August over the previous year, continuing a long string of declines that dates back to mid–2008. But the single–digit drop was less than in recent months. The International Sleep Products Association’s monthly Bedding Barometer showed that the dollar value of shipments fell 13.4% in August and the average unit selling price dropped 6.3%. The Bedding Barometer reports the sales activity of 18 U.S. mattress producers representing 45.5% of unit shipments.
