Diamond Spring Octaspring product racking up awards

Mattress and pillow industry supplier Diamond Spring Co. has been nominated for the Red Dot Design Award 2010 for its Octaspring. Red Dot is an international design competition sponsored by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany.

Diamond Spring, based in Zele, Belgium, already has won several awards for the Octaspring, an eight–sided honeycomb–like spring made entirely of polyurethane. The patent–pending design is intended for use in mattress cores, pillows, seating and automobiles.

The company says the component can be made in a wide range of resistance levels and heights and the air permeability of the system allows the discharge of moist air. According to the company, the German LGA research lab has tested the spring, giving it maximum scores for comfort and durability.

During the Brussels Furniture Fair in November, Octaspring won a Balthazar award for the Most Innovative Product. The competition is open to all exhibitors of the international furniture show. In October, Diamond Spring received an M–Technology award for the Octaspring at a ceremony during the ZOW exhibition in Verona, Italy. The competition is organized by iF International Forum Design, an industrial design institute.

The jury assessed the design and the level of innovation of 60 products.

Diamond Spring itself was named one of the Trends magazine’s Gazelles of 2009 for being one of the fastest growing companies in Belgium.
