Despite a tough economy, Newark, N.J.–based Shifman Mattresses said it grew its dealer base by 23% in 2009. Sales for fourth–quarter 2009 were up 42% over the same period in 2008 and January 2009 sales were 43% higher than the same period a year earlier, according to the company. The manufacturer of luxury handmade mattresses attributed the growth to offering dealers exclusive distribution and creating effective co–op advertising programs to drive store traffic and increase sales. Sedlak Interiors, a furniture retailer based in Solon, Ohio, is one of Shifman’s newest accounts.
