Industry veteran Michael Pino dies

Mattress industry veteran Michael Pino, who had been battling cancer, died June 22. He was 56.

Pino spent more than 20 years in the mattress industry, the majority of it with Princeton, N.J.–based licensing group Therapedic International. He rose through the ranks at Therapedic, serving in several top management posts, including president and director of international affairs and specialty licensing.

In 2008, Pino founded his own consulting group, specializing in international licensing partnerships, sales strategies and marketing plans. Clients included mattress maker Natura World, where he held the title of international sales director, and licensing group Restonic.

“Michael was a remarkable ambassador for Natura in the international mattress world,” said Ralph Rossdeutscher, president of Cambridge, Ontario–based Natura World. “He was also a good friend and we will miss his sense of humor, his willingness to be there for others and his ‘get it done’ attitude.”

Pino held a number of leadership and committee posts with the International Sleep Products Association, including serving on the board (2004–08) and the Better Sleep Council (1997– 2004).

He received his undergraduate degree from Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. After graduation, Pino taught high school, before moving on to a job at an advertising agency and then to Therapedic.

He was an avid professional sports fan, and a soccer coach for a recreational league in his hometown of Hillsborough, N.J.

Survivors include his wife, Wendy; son, Jonathan; two brothers; three nieces and a nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a charity of your choice or to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America via the nonprofit Gateway for Cancer Research. A memorial guestbook and video remembrance created by the family can be accessed at www.lifecelebrationstudio.com.
