CertiPUR–US, a voluntary testing, analysis and certification program operated by the Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane Foam in Loudon, Tenn., has named Douglas Sullivan executive director.
He replaces Bob Luedeka, executive director of the Polyurethane Foam Association, which initiated the CertiPUR–US program. Luedeka served as CertiPUR–US interim executive director until the program reached a level of success that allowed for hiring a permanent director, the group said.
In the new role, Sullivan serves as the chief spokesman and administrator of the CertiPUR–US program. He is responsible for managing the certification and renewal process and for monitoring use of the program seal. He reports to the board of the Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane Foam.
Sullivan has more than three decades of experience in the flexible polyurethane foam industry. He worked for Hickory Springs Mfg. Co. for 20 years, first as director of research and development and then as technical director. Before that, he was a research scientist at Union Carbide’s urethane chemicals division and prior to that, he was a project leader at Dow Chemical Co.
Sullivan has presented numerous technical papers at industry meetings and serves as chairman of ASTM International’s subcommittee on furniture flammability.
“As a longtime colleague and respected scientist, Doug Sullivan is the ideal person to lead CertiPUR–US to the next level,” Luedeka said.
