Mattress manufacturer Coco-Mat has opened a two-story flagship store in New York’s SoHo neighborhood. It is the Xanthi, Greece-based company’s first stand-alone store in the United States. Coco-Mat also is sold at a store-within-a-store at ABC Carpet & Home in Manhattan.
The flagship store offers a private room outfitted like a hotel suite, where consumers can test mattresses for as long as they like in private. While on the sales floor, customers test beds while consulting with specially trained sales associates who provide individualized recommendations.
The store’s environment embodies the Coco-Mat brand in its “graciousness and simple elegance,” the company said in a news release. In addition to the test suite, browsers at the New York store can try the free Greek food, freshly squeezed juices and espresso.
“Our customers have made Coco-Mat mattresses the core foundation of their bedrooms because they provide an unparalleled sleep experience,” said Paul Efmorfidis, Coco-Mat founder. “Around the globe, you will find our beds from family homes to luxury resorts because there is an appreciation for our craftsmanship and use of the finest natural materials. Situating the store in SoHo, one of the country’s premier shopping districts, demonstrates our confidence that some of the world’s most savvy customers will enjoy our products.”
The company’s specialty sleep mattresses are hand crafted from layers of coconut fiber, seaweed, cactus fiber and horsehair treated with natural rubber. They are available at 60 stores in 11 countries.
Coco-Mat global sales totaled $70 million in 2011, according to the company. The luxury hospitality market is an important part of its business. Coco-Mat beds can be found at the Landmark London Hotel, Ritz-Carlton Barcelona, Hotel de l’Europe in Amsterdam and hundreds of others.
