Warren, Mich.-based furniture retailer Art Van is making sure firefighters in cash-strapped Detroit get a good night’s sleep. The retailer is donating 150 new bed sets to firehouses across the city.

The first mattress delivery arrived on Christmas Eve at a firehouse on the city’s east side. The remaining beds will be delivered after Jan. 1.

“The courageous firefighters of Detroit are true heroes in our city,” said Art Van Founder and Chairman Art Van Elslander. “There is no better way for us to honor them than to bring some small measure of comfort to the place they call their home away from home.”

The Art Van mattress donation was made in support of Mayor Dave Bing’s Active and Safe Detroit campaign, a three-year initiative to raise $50 million in support of the city’s first responders. For more information or to make a donation, check Detroit Public Safety Foundation.
