Hilding Anders may consolidate Scandi Sleep production

European mattress major Hilding Anders, which has headquarters in Malmö, Sweden, announced on Jan. 17 that it may close the Scandi Sleep production plant in Horsens, Denmark. The company entered into negotiations with employee representatives of the plant. The closure would affect around 50 employees.

“As a result of a tougher market environment, we are considering strengthening our competiveness by consolidating our two factories in Denmark,” said Pål Jönsson, sales and marketing director for Hilding Anders in Denmark. “It is crucial that we secure our long-term competitiveness and our ability to serve our customer in the very best way.”

The restructure would most likely mean moving bed and mattress production from Horsens to its sister plant in Hurup Thy, also known as Carl Thøgersen, merging the two sites into one unit, according to a news release. The move would affect only manufacturing and create 10 to 15 jobs at the Hurup Thy site. Customer service functions and the showroom would remain in Horsens.
