ISPA-supported bill advances in Connecticut

Connecticut State Capitol BuildingThe Connecticut Legislature Environment Committee voted on March 18 to advance mattress recycling legislation. The bill is a compromise version that the International Sleep Products Association negotiated with the legislation’s sponsors and state officials. It authorizes the industry to create an organization to administer a used mattress recycling program in the state.

The organization will have the authority to fund the program by collecting a small fee that will appear on the invoice of each mattress and foundation sold at retail.

Throughout the negotiations, ISPA’s goals have been to develop legislation that is practical and will not unduly harm the mattress industry.
