Mike Brown
Mattress producer Kingsdown Inc. has named Mike Brown national sales manager for Sleep Comfort International, a division of the Mebane, N.C.-based company that markets promotionally priced bedding.
Sleep Comfort International, which launched last fall, markets a half-dozen mattress options, ranging in price from $199 to $799 in queen sizes. Bed sets are manufactured at Kingsdown factories and offer the company’s signature elegant styling and construction at value prices.
In the newly created post, Brown is responsible for leading efforts to develop distribution of the new brand. He reports to Kevin Damewood, Kingsdown executive vice president of sales and marketing, and is based in Atlanta.
Brown is a 27-year veteran of the mattress industry. Prior to joining Kingsdown, Brown spent nearly 20 years with American Bedding Co., where he served as sales manager, overseeing a 12-member sales team.
“In selecting Mike for this position, we wanted to find an industry veteran whose strength was cultivating both the relationships and new business necessary to successfully launch the SCI brand,” Damewood said. “Mike is an expert in opening new accounts because he understands how to work with dealers to improve their competitiveness even in the most difficult of markets. As a sales manager, he is the complete package—he can merchandise, price, sales train and promote. Those traits make him the ideal person to grow our retail partnerships across America.”
Discussing his new post at Kingsdown, Brown said, “My goal is to introduce dealers to the SCI difference. They no longer have to sacrifice quality or service just because a product is competitively priced.
