NCFI Polyurethanes awards safe drivers

Foam supplier NCFI Polyurethanes, which operates its own delivery fleet with six full-time drivers, recently announced its annual driving-safety awards. The Mount Airy, N.C.-based company said its drivers maintained the company’s exceptional safety record, logging in approximately 1.5 million accident-free miles in 2012. The company’s six drivers have a combined total of 133 years of accident-free driving.

According to an NCFI news release, a 2012 study by the National Private Trucking puts the national average for private fleets at .725 crashes per million miles, and statistics from the U.S. Department of Transportation reflect an average of two preventable crashes per million miles driven.

“Our management team has a strong commitment to the implementation of a formal fleet safety program that interacts with most aspects of fleet operations and challenges the skills and knowledge of our supervisors and drivers,” said Steve Riddle, NCFI president. “The main reason we started our private fleet in the 1960s remains the same reason we operate it today. We believe when we do it ourselves the product will get where it needs to be on time and it won’t be damaged.”
