Following its April meeting in Philadelphia, the ASTM Crib Mattress Committee is expected to issue the first official crib mattress standard shortly. The initiative comes in response to efforts by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to set new safety standards for juvenile products, including cribs. The committee is considering whether to require the use of lock stitching to develop a standard for crib mattress height. It’s also discussing a test method to measure mattress compression. The committee’s next meeting is planned for September.
