Health Canada recently released a new document to assist manufacturers and retailers in complying with the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. The CCPSA requires manufacturers to report any incident that “could reasonably be expected to result in death or harmful health effects.”
The new document provides guidance on penalties for noncompliance, which can range from fines of $1,000 Canadian to $25,000 Canadian per day. Health Canada also can compel manufacturers and retailers to recall and stop sale of products if a health risk is determined.
