Mattress manufacturer Paramount Sleep, headquartered in Norfolk, Va., has named Richard Fleck as president, a position previously held by Jamie Diamonstein. Fleck is the first nonfamily member to hold the post since the third-generation, 80-year-old company was founded.

Previously, Fleck was executive vice president and chief marketing officer. He joined Paramount Sleep in 2008 as senior vice president of sales and is a 25-year bedding industry veteran with a background in both manufacturing and retail. He has held senior-level sales and marketing positions at the former Spring Air. Co. and at Serta.

Company principals and brothers Jamie and Richard Diamonstein have assumed managing director roles. They oversee the Paramount Sleep Alliance—the company’s network of manufacturing partners—government and export sales and national prospect support.

“Our vision has always been to grow the company under the guidance of a bedding industry expert such as Richard,” Jamie said. “Richard’s professionalism, merchandising skills and his understanding of sales, marketing and operations makes him the perfect choice for the role.”

Fleck began his career in 1987, as a retail sales associate at Bullock’s, a Federated Department Stores company, and was accepted to the retailer’s executive training program. He later was bedding buyer for department store chain The Broadway and furniture retailer Barker Brothers Furniture.

Fleck played a key role in Paramount Sleep’s transition from a regional player and former long-time King Koil licensee into an independent manufacturer with eight proprietary bed brands—A.H. Beard, Back Performance, Boutique Hotel, Doc in a Box, GoodNite, HD Super Duty, iGravity and Nature’s Spa—with national distribution capabilities through a network of affiliated manufacturing plants.

Richard Diamonstein said, “Over the last three years we’ve grown from a regional factory to a global manufacturer of quality bedding products. Richard has been a tremendous asset to this company and will continue to lay the foundation for strategic and sustainable growth.”

Commenting on his new role, Fleck said, “Having started out as a retail sales associate, I am extremely humbled to now be president of Paramount Sleep. I have been very fortunate and blessed to work not only with great companies, but great leaders and mentors in the bedding industry such as Bob Sherman, Barbara Bradford, Burt Kaplan, Richard Yulman, Howard Eisenberg, Tom LeDuc, and Steve, Tino and Pat Antinori.”
