Mattress industry supplier HSM, with headquarters in Hickory, N.C., has hired Scott Beatty as the director of design services and Jim Cardinale as director of furniture solutions for its Corporate Innovation and Technology Center.

Beatty has companywide oversight of product design and development, including new product testing, prototyping and validation. He also is responsible for ensuring adherence to HSM new product development protocols.
A mechanical engineer and Six Sigma Black Belt, Beatty brings 28 years of engineering and management experience to the post. Previously, he was director of program management at Jarden Consumer Solutions. Beatty also has held positions at Greenleaf Corp., Orion Enterprises, Sargent Mfg. Co., Viking Range LLC and Whirlpool Corp.
Jim Cardinale
Cardinale is responsible for managing engineering research and development of new and existing products in the furniture business unit. This includes product design, development, prototype testing and validation.
A mechanical engineer, Cardinale brings 18 years of experience to the position, most recently as product development director with Smith Brothers of Berne Inc. Prior to that he was an applications engineer at Maxon, a division of Honeywell International.
Both men report to Gregg Greulich, corporate vice president of innovation and technology.

The addition of Beatty and Cardinale is part of HSM’s “migration from a components supplier to a supplier of integrated solutions with a market-focused strategy … with greater emphasis on research and development,” said Dwayne Welch, HSM executive vice president and chief marketing and innovation officer.
