Mattress Firm supports children’s creativity event

Global Cardboard Challenge

Children and their parents take part in the Imagination Foundation’s Global Cardboard Challenge event sponsored by Mattress Firm.

Sleep shop chain Mattress Firm was a sponsor and key participant in the second annual Global Cardboard Challenge, an international event that fosters creativity in children. The event is a project of the Imagination Foundation, a nonprofit whose goal is to engage children in creative play. The foundation sprang from the viral YouTube video “Caine’s Arcade,” about a boy from East Los Angeles who designed and built his own game arcade—from cardboard.

According to a news release, Mattress Firm has played a significant role in helping the Imagination Foundation reach its goal to find, foster and fund creativity and entrepreneurship in children around the world. Throughout the month of September, Mattress Firm collected and donated cardboard, markers, crayons, scissors, tape, glue and other craft supplies at more than 1,100 store locations across the country.

On Oct. 5, the retailer hosted the Cardboard Challenge at six of its retail stores.

“We are thrilled to be able to support the Imagination Foundation in their mission to inspire and foster creativity in children around the world,” said Steve Stagner, Mattress Firm president and chief executive officer. “Supporting the Cardboard Challenge at our retail locations offers us the unique opportunity to connect with and inspire members of our local community, and also allows us to showcase the important role that sleep plays in fostering creativity in children.”
