HSM rewarded with economic incentives from city of Hickory

The Hickory Record reported Tuesday that mattress industry supplier HSM (formerly Hickory Springs Mfg. Co.), with headquarters in Hickory, N.C., was approved to receive up to $82,690 in economic incentives from the city of Hickory. The Hickory City Council approved the incentives in a 5-0 vote.

The incentives are in exchange for HSM’s creation of about 135 new jobs by the close of 2015, at its two local facilities. The new hires are part of HSM’s $3.3 million investment in Catawba County, the news story said. The city will pay HSM $500 for each new job created.

Julie Pruett of the Catawba County Economic Development Corp. told the Hickory Record, “(HSM is) becoming a high-tech global producer, and that’s exactly what we want here in our community.”
