Michael Platt
Michael Platt, a 25-year ticking sales veteran, died May 2 at his home in greater St. Louis, after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 48.
As an independent sales agent and president of The Platt Group, Platt’s primary focus was mattress fabrics. For the past eight years, he represented Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based Bekaert Textiles USA. Previously, he worked with the former Burlington Industries, Tietex and the former Value Ticking. Platt expanded his manufacturer’s representative business to include a number of other mattress components and, throughout his successful career, covered sales territories across the United States.
“Michael Platt was a true professional,” said Brandon Wells, Bekaert Textiles president and general manager. “He cared about the bedding industry as well as the people in it. We not only lost a great employee, but a great human being and friend. He will be sorely missed.”
According to Platt’s family, he enjoyed a variety of outside interests, loved to travel, “never met a stranger,” and, at 44, formed a band with some friends, fulfilling a lifelong dream to play guitar and be lead singer.
Survivors include his wife Katriona “Katie”; daughter Chandler and sons Campbell and Clayton; mother Gretchen; father and stepmother John and Kathy; three brothers; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., May 17, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, Kisker Rd., St. Peters, MO, followed by a celebration of his life at the Platt family home.
