Norix Furniture offers durable, new institutional mattress

Institutional and commercial furniture manufacturer Norix Furniture, with headquarters in West Chicago, Illinois, has added a line of highly durable, sealed-seam mattresses.

Designed for health care and correctional institutions, the Comfort Shield Sealed Seam mattress collection has radio frequency welded (heat sealed) seams, the company said in a news release. The seams create a “perpetual bond” that protects the beds’ interior from “bodily fluids, blood-borne pathogens, bed bugs and contraband penetration for enhanced hygiene, security and durability.”

According to Brad Karl, Norix furniture product manager, “This is a major step up from stitched seams because we are creating a consistent barrier around the circumference of the mattress. These mattresses are ideal for challenging environments that are constantly battling product breakdown due to constant use or tampering. In the end, these mattresses will help keep people in these facilities safe. This solution also will save these facilities money since they won’t need to replace mattresses every six months.”

Comfort Shield is a three-step collection. Norix Blue has a pillow-top with heat sealed seams and a polyurethane-coated FR cover. Silver Secure has a rip-stop scrim to prevent tear and puncture attempts. Black Max can handle the toughest environments with welded seams reinforced with internal stitching and a three-ply, polyurethane-coated cover with rip-stop scrim.
