Buying group BrandSource, based in Tustin, California, has introduced YouSleep, a pressure-imaging program for retailers that assists shoppers in finding the best mattress for their body type. YouSleep, which was developed in partnership with Calgary, Alberta-based XSENSOR Technology Corp., is easy for retailers to set up and uses customizable software and wireless technology.
“Everyone’s looking for a good night’s sleep; however, most of us don’t know how to choose the right mattress,” said Mike Allen, BrandSource vice president of home furnishings. “A mattress top needs to be soft enough to remove peak pressure points that cause tossing and turning, and its (core) is important for spinal alignment and conformity to the body’s shape. The YouSleep program uses highly sophisticated pressure-imaging, allowing BrandSource members to help each individual customer find the right mattress solution.”
The YouSleep test surface has 1,600 pressure sensors that yield an on-screen pressure-point analysis to help shoppers visualize their correct comfort and choose the best bed for their body type. They can try a variety of sleep surfaces—up to six at a time—and compare how each one looks and feels. Shoppers receive a custom recommendation from the YouSleep system, which also was designed to assist retailers in reducing their mattress-return rates.
“You would never leave a shoe store with a shoe that doesn’t fit, and buying a mattress shouldn’t be any different,” Allen said. “There are a number of issues that impact a good night’s sleep, and buying a mattress is one of the most critical. YouSleep makes it easy for members to help their customers—and the positive shopping experience also builds loyalty.”
BrandSource unveiled YouSleep to retailers in August at its annual convention held in Las Vegas.
