The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported today that the city of Atlanta is negotiating to become the new corporate headquarters of Hoffman Estates, Illinois-based Serta Simmons Bedding LLC, parent of two major mattress brands.
The negotiation was disclosed by Atlanta’s economic development arm, Invest Atlanta, which will meet Thursday morning to discuss incentives. The mattress maker may receive up to $50,000 in local incentives and is eligible for state jobs tax credits.
The deal would relocate “Serta Simmons Bedding LLC from Illinois to the Two Alliance Center tower in Buckhead (and) result in 110 new or relocated jobs that pay an average annual salary of $140,000,” the paper reported. Atlanta is competing for the headquarters with cities in Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
A company spokesman for the mattress-manufacturing giant told the Journal-Constitution that Simmons Bedding Co.’s headquarters in metro Atlanta and Serta’s brand headquarters in suburban Chicago would not be affected by the move.
