Mattress industry revenues spike in December

100th anniversary logo for the International Sleep Products AssociationUnit sales of mattresses and foundations increased 15.1% in December, compared with unit sales in the same month of 2013, according to the International Sleep Products Association’s Bedding Barometer (paywall). The wholesale dollar value of those units grew 25.1%, compared with December 2013, and the average unit selling price increased 8.7%.

For the fourth quarter of 2014, unit shipments and wholesale revenues increased 7.1% and 12.3%, respectively, compared with the prior-year quarter, and the AUSP grew 4.9%.

Looking at trends for the full year, unit sales and the wholesale dollar levels of those units increased by 2.8% and 7.2%, respectively, compared with full-year 2013. The full-year AUSP grew 4.2%.
