Mark Quinn, an industry veteran who departed Leggett & Platt in the fall, and his brother Jeff Quinn, a former Mattress Firm vice president, have partnered with mattress-manufacturing brothers Neil and Lance Ellman to introduce the heritage U.K. innerspring brand Spink & Edgar to American consumers. The new company’s name is Sibose, an acronym for “Sleep is better on Spink & Edgar.”
Founded in 1885, Leeds, U.K.-based Spink & Edgar is a premium Harrison Spinks bed brand with a “comfort from nature” identity. The beds feature natural comfort layers such as wool, hemp and flax that the company grows on a 300-acre farming estate in the Yorkshire countryside. These materials will be shipped to the U.S. and incorporated into the Spink & Edgar bed sets manufactured here.
The Quinns and Ellmans say they are offering American customers and retailers a luxury product with a meaningful “farm to bedroom” story. Another selling point, according to the new Spink & Edgar USA website (www.spinkandedgarusa.com) is sex. Intimacy is better with the “bounce-back” provided by the beds’ premium innerspring units, the site says.
“Retailers need innovative approaches to grow their business,” said Mark Quinn, Sibose president and chief executive officer. “Our products are incredibly compelling and we believe they will contribute to increasing high-end sales, an area of the market where our partners can be very profitable.”
Jeff Quinn, chief operating officer, said, “We take pride in knowing where our materials are grown … There’s been a significant market shift toward natural, traceable materials and we are offering retailers a one-of-a-kind product.”
The partners said they will begin showing product in May and will launch with limited distribution soon after.
“Our retail partners will be able to leverage a distinct brand without being concerned about seeing the same bed at a nearby competitor,” said Lance Ellman, partner and co-founder. “Finding the right partnerships is an important part of our launch.”
