Carpenter Ltd., based in Glossop, England, a part of Richmond, Virginia-based Carpenter Co., has launched temperature-regulating consumer sleep products, as well as mattresses, pillows and toppers emblazoned with hygiene sensors, according to a news release.
The Climate collection of mattresses, pillows and toppers, sold in the U.K. under the company’s Sleep Better brand umbrella, uses Thermic, a type of microencapsulated phase-change material, to keep sleepers in their “comfort zone for longer,” the company said.
“Because our new Climate collection uses patented thermo-regulation technology with phase-change microcapsules that respond to body temperature at the point closest to the skin, the new range is much more effective in keeping the temperature within this comfort zone,” said Gillian Finch, U.K. national sales manager. “It’s not just about being cool to the touch and preventing people from overheating and sweating, it’s also about maintaining warmth for comfort and an undisturbed night’s sleep.”
Check Point is a sensor for mattresses and pillows that changes from blue to yellow when it’s time for the laundry. Yarns in the sewn-on fabric badge react to bodily fluids, dust mite excrement and other types of soil. The patented, Interzum award-winning technology won’t wash out, and was introduced in 2013 by German textile supplier Bodet & Horst and the Fraunhofer Research Institution.
“The advantage of removable covers for mattresses, pillows and toppers is, of course, their wash-ability, but consumer studies repeatedly show that consumers aren’t really sure how often to wash their products,” Finch said. “Our new range with hygiene sensors takes the guesswork out of when to clean bedding and will help consumers understand more about how frequently to wash products. It provides a practical solution to controlling mattress hygiene.”
