Mattress makers Naturepedic and Suite Sleep are the first participants in Bedfax Verified, a voluntary disclosure program sponsored by the Specialty Sleep Association.
According to a news release, the Bedfax label says “exactly what is inside a participating mattress model by weight or volume, including what is in the cover, the quilt or comfort layer and the core of the participating mattress.”
Naturepedic, headquartered in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, has selected 17 models for Bedfax.
“We are honored to be part of the Bedfax program and to help it succeed,” said Barry Cik, technical
director of Safe for Home Products LLC, which manufactures and markets under the Naturepedic and Lullaby Earth brands. “We have devoted years to designing and marketing healthier and safer mattresses and bedding for adults and children. The more we can inform and educate our consumers, the better.”
Suite Sleep, based in Boulder, Colorado, chose two models, the Little Lamb latex mattress and the Little Spring hybrid mattress for the program.
“We believe that the consumer should know what is in our bed,” said Angela Owen, president and owner of Suite Sleep. “We are committed to the idea of full transparency and embrace this consumer-disclosure 
labeling program as part of Suite Sleep’s commitment to creating a better informed and educated consumer.”
According to the news release, an independent third-party lab at random will test Bedfax products for contents and supporting documentation. Manufacturers will reimburse the SSA for expenses.
