Art Van Charity Challenge news release homepageThe eighth annual Art Van Charity Challenge drew 147 Midwestern charities focused on children, health care and human services.

The 10 nonprofit organizations able to raise the most money shared $225,000 in prize grants from Art Van Furniture, ranging in size from $1,500 to $100,000.

The retailer also donated $79,000 in bonus grants, which were awarded to winning charities in special competitions throughout the program.

Art Van’s donations totaled $304,000.

Since 2008, the Warren, Michigan-based retailer has donated
$8 million and raised $22 million for more than 350 charities through the Art Van Charity Challenge.

Here is how the 2016 Art Van Charity Challenged worked:

  • The Challenge set a fundraising goal for participating charities of raising $3 million in five weeks, May 19 through June 22.
  • The 147 participating charities competed to raise the most money. The organizations’ are focused on children, health care and human services issues.
  • The 10 nonprofits that raised the most money shared the $225,000 grant from Art Van. Art Van awarded an additional $79,000 in bonus grants to winning charities in special competitions.
  • Home furnishings executive and former supermodel Cindy Crawford acted as ambassador of the 2016 Art Van Charity Challenge.
