Survey Finds Only Half of Brits Regularly Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Good Night’s Sleep

Despite spending one-third of people’s lives in bed, many put more thought into choosing a new paint color than buying a new mattress, according to a January 2016 survey conducted by Censuswide on behalf of Leesa, an online mattress company based in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Out of 1,583 Brits surveyed, almost half reported they don’t get a good night’s sleep on a regular basis and a third of British women say they hardly ever do.

According to a news release, part of the issue is that many don’t put enough thought into their mattress. More than a third considered selecting a vacation getaway more important than selecting a new mattress. Nearly a fifth of people said they spent more time deliberating on paint colors than on what they would sleep on for eight hours a day.

“The lack of thought people put into buying a mattress is worrying,” says Jamie Diamonstein, co-founder of Leesa. “The impact of poor sleep is well-documented—at best, people may be irritable, feel low and struggle to be productive; at worst, bad sleepers can suffer long-term physical pain and exhaustion.”
