Leggett & Platt Research Shows RSAs Prefer Steel Foundations

Original research conducted by Leggett & Platt Inc. shows that retail sales associates believe steel foundations are stronger than all-wood bases, according to the Carthage, Missouri-based industry supplier.

Leggett & Platt Research, RSAs, Steel Foundations

Research from Leggett & Platt Inc., the Carthage, Missouri-based industry supplier, reveals 76% of retail sales associates favor steel foundations over wood.

In a June survey conducted with 100 RSAs, 76% said they prefer to sell steel foundations with a quality sleep set, 93% believe all-wood bases are low end, 87% said consumers will pay more for steel, 83% believe steel will last longer and 76% said all-wood bases are noisier.

“The survey confirmed our long-held belief that RSAs trust steel wire foundations and believe they last longer in consumers’ homes,” said Jason Jewett, L&P Bedding Group vice president of product development.

Mark Kinsley, staff vice president of marketing for the Bedding Group, added: “A healthy sleeper will move around approximately 50 times each night. She doesn’t want a squeaky, low-quality wood foundation creaking, crackling and waking her up. Steel is strong and silent, both of which support a good night’s sleep.”

Kinsley discusses—and illustrates—some of the study findings in an engaging video found at a new L&P microsite, Steel-Strong.com.
