Mattress fabric executive Larry Starkey dies at 65

Longtime industry sales executive Larry Starkey died April 28, following a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 65 and a native of Greenville, South Carolina.

Most recently, Starkey was president of textile importer Grace Trinity Inc., based in Greenville, which is the agent for major Indonesian ticking supplier Ateja, with headquarters in Bandung. Previously, he was vice president of sales and marketing for nonwovens supplier Pratrivero USA (formerly Soltex), the domestic business unit of the eponymous Pratrivero, Italy-based company. Prior to that, he was vice president of sales for mattress maker Park Place.

Survivors include Jane, his wife of 43 years; son Seth; sisters Brenda Miller and Claudette Thornton; daughter-in-law Laura Lee; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents James and Abbie Starkey.

According to his family, he was a steadfast husband, loving father, proud grandfather, protective brother, loyal friend and an overall joy to be around. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville.
