ISPA's Statistics Committee Releases the 2020 Forecast

ISPA’s Statistics Committee has released the 2020 forecast for the U.S. mattress market (November 2020 Mattress Industry Forecast — paywall). This forecast covers calendar years 2020 through 2022.

Based in part on an economic analysis prepared by the University of Michigan, and input from the Committee, the consensus view is that both the value and quantity of mattress shipments for U.S. produced shipments will decline in 2020 before growth begins in 2021 and 2022.

For 2020, the forecast shows a 3.0% reduction in the value of mattress shipments and a 4.5% decrease in units shipped. For 2021, the forecast anticipates a 3.0% increase in the value of mattress shipments and a 1.5% increase in units shipped. For 2022, the anticipated increase in mattress value and units is 3.0% and 2.0% respectively.

The view on the total mattress market for 2020, 2021, and 2022 will show growth in both value and mattress shipments. The forecast anticipates a 4.0% growth in both value and shipments of mattresses for 2020. The anticipated increase for 2021 and 2022 shows 3.5% and 3.0% growth in value and 2.0% and 4.0% growth in unit shipments respectively.

The forecast also contains timely economic and market analyses provided by Jerry Epperson, of Mann, Armistead & Epperson, Ltd., and Ashraf Abdul Mohsen of Association Research Inc.
