Classic Brands partners with private equity investor

A&M Capital Opportunities, headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut, has purchased a stake in Classic Brands, a manufacturer and distributor of sleep products and home furnishings based in Jessup, Maryland.

Neither the size of the investment or details of the transaction were disclosed.

In a news release, Classic described itself as “a value-
added manufacturing, sourcing, distribution and logistics partner to its customers across all retail and distribution channels … with distribution capabilities throughout the U.S.”

Classic said as of June 2016, it had shipped more than 2 million boxed beds through online and brick-and-mortar retail channels.

“The entire Classic Brands team is excited to partner with AMCO as we position the business for accelerated growth,” said Michael Zippelli, Classic Brands chief executive officer. “We look forward to tapping the strategic and capital resources the AMCO team will provide as we build the company to better serve our customers.”

According to the AMCO website, the private equity firm invests in the consumer and retail, light industrial, business and government services, and health care sectors.

Primary targets are “growth-oriented businesses … (and AMCO typically makes) equity investments of $15 million to $45 million with the ability to invest more if needed. (It) targets companies with enterprise values of $25 million to $150 million.”
